The O’Brien Art Foundation recently traveled to Wilmington, Delaware for the opening of the Delaware Art Museum’s exhibition, Citizen Artist, focused on artists engaged in employment relief programs of the New Deal in the 1930 and interconnected Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) of the 1970s. The landmark exhibition includes six works on loan from both the Foundation’s collection and The Marty O’Brien Collection of American Art by George Biddle, Charles Biederman, Clarence Holbrook Carter, Sydney Glen Fossum, Dale Nichols, and Stuyvesant Van Veen.

Foundation board member Beau Ott joined Founder and President, Marty O’Brien and Director, Hannah Turpin for the visit. Prior to the public opening, the Foundation attended a private preview and lunch with co-curators Margaret Winslow and Dorothy Fisher among others. The evening included a Director’s Circle reception followed by a larger members’ preview with strong attendance and engagement throughout the galleries. Citizen Artist was on view through July 19, with a related Citizen Artist Summit on July 9–12 featuring original research presentations and expanded public programming.
